What to expect

If you are new to massage then I thought it would be nice to talk you through what will happen. I feel it will relax you more if you know what will happen during your treatment. If after reading this you feel I haven't answered a question you have thought of please feel free to email me.

Where will my massage take place?

My usual working week is Monday - Thursday (daytime & evenings). I also offer pamper parties from your own home.

What should I wear to my treatment?

You may wish to wear loose, comfortable clothing to aid the relaxation after the massage. All jewellery will need to be removed (apart from wedding bands and body piercings).

What will happen during the treatment?    oils

As part of your first visit I will take a confidential consultation which allows me to build up a picture of you and your needs so that I can create the best possible treatment tailored to your needs. This will last approximately 15 minutes and will only be on your first visit. After that I will check on each visit if there are any changes and update your records.

Some clients feel uncomfortable with the thought of removing their clothes. As a professional massage therapist I am primarily concerned with your care and well being and will protect your modesty at all times. You will be covered with towels, and only the body part being treated is exposed. To aid your relaxation, my treatment room has been designed with your privacy and comfort in mind. Oils will be used and calming music is available if you wish.

Why do you need my medical history?

A responsible therapist asks about your medical history in the initial consultation. Although massage has many wonderful benefits, it is not appropriate for people with some medical conditions and sometimes must be used cautiously.

For example, massage is not recommended if you have a condition involving infection (including cold or flu) because massage might help the infection spread through your body. Massage is also generally not recommended for people with advanced heart, kidney, or liver problems. Other conditions that affect circulation, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, require caution, depending on your overall physical condition.

What are the benefits of massage?

The techniques work directly on the skin and the musculo-skeletal, circulatory, lymphatic (immune) and nervous systems. This improves the functioning of the whole body.

The many benefits of massage include:

Alleviating back pain and improving range of motion.

Enhancing immunity by stimulating lymph flow - the body’s natural  defence system.

Improving the condition of the skin.

 Increasing joint flexibility.

 Lessening depression and anxiety.

 Improving circulation.

Releasing endorphins - the body’s natural painkiller.

 Improving digestion

 Encouraging general relaxation.

How will I feel after the massage?

That will depend on a number of factors. Fast and powerful massage can invigorate and stimulate the body and mind, leaving the client wide awake and refreshed. Slow, smooth massage tends to relax the client, leaving them peaceful and calm. Deep, purposeful massage can leave the client feeling empowered, recharged and centred. The client's health, the time of day, the length and style of massage etc all have an influence. Almost all clients will experience positive results from a good quality massage.

After your treatment I will give you some aftercare advice in order to gain the most out of your treatment.
